story

Our Consulting Story

I wanted to be a consultant by the time I was taking my final CIMA exams. Soon after I qualified, I joined one of the top 4 consulting firms but there was no soft landing for me, it was tough. Soon, I started to wonder if consulting was for me. A chance meeting with the head of a top global bank changed that. After spending some minutes listening to her challenges, she said “you just get it, this is absolutely what you should be doing! This was the affirmation I needed that I was on the right career path. Soon afterwards I left and set up CFBL Consulting, a specialist consultancy.

The purpose of our work placement training is to give back to those with a keen interest in consulting and finance. Our training is particularly targeted at international students and those from diverse minority ethnic backgrounds. The aim is to give candidates the soft landing I never had while also instilling in them an entrepreneurial mindset so that our alumni are equipped with practical hands-on skills, confidence, and resilience to emerge as top consultants and innovative start-up entrepreneurs.

— CFBL Team

Elizabeth Bamidele - Accounting & Finance

‘’My thirst for knowledge and experience made me join CFBL consulting on the 20th of May 2022 as a finance and accounting intern. My experience since then has been superb, I have been given the opportunity to work alongside an experienced and intelligent team. At CFBL consulting, the belief here is that; to be the best in your chosen career, you must constantly develop yourself. I have taken over five courses from the corporate finance institute; I have gone through free-agent training which I have applied the knowledge gained to my daily output. At CFBL consulting, you can create innovative ideas and work on real-life case studies.’’

 —— Nigeria, Africa

Antonios Tsalikis - Digital Marketing & Consulting

“I started as a digital marketing intern,  and my role soon evolved into a consulting intern, working mostly on commercial, technology and risk and control strategy issues. I have enjoyed the teamwork and the experience of working in a robust environment. I believe that I have learned a lot of new skills and worked effectively as a team player. What I have valued most, is working closely with our Director. This has enabled me to engage in high-quality work and provided a unique combination of experiences.”

—— Greece, Europe

Henry Wei - Finance & Consulting

Despite 2020 being a challenging year, I was lucky to receive a voluntary internship at CFBL Consulting. My responsibility was to finish a variety of projects to client requirements. This included analysing financial performance and recommending solutions for improvements. I was amazed at the responsibility and involvement that was given to me as an intern. I am grateful for this amazing opportunity of working with a brilliant team. The team were amazing, welcoming and willing to support me. We understood and helped each other, which always made me feel like family.

——China, Asia

Valeria Bustamante-Papa - Strategy & Consulting

What I really appreciate about CFBL apart from representing a real learning experience, is the fact that opinions and suggestions are considered despite thehierarchy of the organisation. Moreover, I really appreciate the support I got from management concerning my University Studies. I believe, the fact that I was ableto attend important meetings with stakeholders, and audits, participate in opinion giving and being able to write pieces on my own was crucial for my learning anddevelopment. I boosted my confidence and at the same time recognised my weaknesses and worked towards improving them. I learned about the importance of teamwork and having transparent communication with them. CFBL provides a comfortable environment in which opinions are considered and you learn something every day. You also understand how teamwork works and the importance of transparent communication and accountability.”

——Peru, South America

Brooklyn Austin Ajaero - Finance & Marketing Analytics

“During my time at CFBL, I have developed three top skills – data analytics, marketing, and professional etiquette. I improved my data analysis skills throughfeedback on reports and analytics. Ialso improved my writing and research skills through feedback on my reports.

In addition, I gained experience through my work with the digital marketing team. Management has been very supportive in letting me know the procedures and showed sincere support. Most of all I valued the insight into different areas of finance and learned that consulting is a path that interests me. Following the placement, I feel more confident in my decision to pursue a career in Finance, the insight from the job has helped me identify what skills will be useful to develop to make myself stand out when applying for graduate schemes.”
